ACT

What is it?

Designed to assess students' general educational development and their ability to complete college-level work. The multiple-choice tests cover four skill areas: English, mathematics, reading, and science. The optional Writing Test is a 30-minute essay test that measures students' writing skills in English.  Each section is scored out of a maximum 36 points, and then averaged.

Who accepts it?

Most 2 & 4 year colleges and universities

How much does it cost?

Regular Registration

No Writing $31.00

Plus Writing  $46.00

Is there a fee waiver?

Yes.  Students that are eligible for free or reduced lunch can receive up to 2 fee waivers.

The first step to obtaining a waiver is to complete the Free or Reduced Lunch eligibility form (available in the main office) and turn in to the cafeteria.  Within 3-5 days, check back on your status.  If you are eligible, visit the career room to obtain your waiver.

Should I take the ACT plus Writing?

It is highly recommended that all university bound students take the ACT plus Writing.  Although not all are requiring yet due to insufficient knowledge about interpreting the scores, many universities this year are requiring the writing, and sometimes in place of an admissions essay.

It is not yet required for the Bright Futures scholarship, but it could possibly be next year.  It is recommended that all juniors (class of 2010) take the ACT plus Writing in the event that the writing will be required for Bright Futures.

Where is it given?
