An Athletic Profile is the single most important document you will submit to coaches during the recruiting process. How you sell yourself in this document could make all the difference. A little bragging is okay, as long as you can prove whatever you say. Visit Mrs. Plankenhorn and your coaches to help put together an athletic profile on paper, and possibly even on the web.
This should be a neat presentation, and should peak the coach's interest. Click here to see a sample profile on the web.
What should I include in my athletic profile?
1. Letter of Introduction
This should be a brief letter introducing yourself to the coach. Always address each coach with their name. Give specifics of yourself:
2. Athletic Resume/Profile
This page can be made using a creative format, similar to an academic or employment resume. It should offer more specifics about your sport in an eye-appealing fashion. You may also include a photo of you in uniform and/or in action. Consider including:
3. Athletic Achievements
List all athletic achievements by high school year, usually beginning with most recent. You may include newspaper clippings in this section. Include:
4. Academic and Extracurricular Resume
Coaches also want to know that you would be a good fit academically for their school. You can find a sample academic resume under Forms.
5. Current High School or Club Game Schedule
Include your current schedule and any tournaments that you may be playing in so that the coach may come to see you play.
6. Letter of Recommendation from Coaches
Provide the coach with one or two letters of recommendation from your current or past coaches.
7. Highlight Video/DVD if possible
Many coaches may not be able to travel to see you play in person, so a highlight video is a good way for them to see your abilities. Work with your coaches to put together a brief presentation of your highlights.
